21 Days of Y’ello Care 2023: MTN Cameroon Launches Reconstruction Works at the Yaounde V Social Center

The operation was launched simultaneously in all ten regions of the country on Saturday, 10th of June 2023.

As announced on June 2 2023 during the official launch of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Cameroon and its partners alongside some government officials expressed their commitment to further embark on activities that will reinforce the well-being and empowerment of people living with disabilities and PWDs.

After the gala night dubbed “Dining in the Dark” which permitted to raise funds for training, construction works, and the setting up of a good number of initiatives directed to vulnerable groups, MTN Cameroon kick-started activities on the field.

One of these key activities is the reconstruction of the Yaounde V Social Center which was over the past years in a wooden construction. The building under construction is expected in a few days to have a new look thanks to the “Yellow” telecommunications company.

The staff of MTN Cameroon, volunteers, and people of goodwill mobilized at the Social Center to carry bags of cement, building blocks, and other materials in a move to boost this activity.

Technical Adviser Number 2 in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Mr Soh Rodolphe saluted the concretization of this project which enters within the framework of the partnership Agreement signed by MTN Cameroon and MINAS.

He said the 21 Days of Y’ello Care 2023 will grant to the Yaounde V Social Center just like other centers brand new equipment for PWDs and other vulnerable groups.

Activities of this year’s edition of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care are jointly coordinated by MTN Cameroon and the Ministry of Social Affairs, thanks to a fruitful Partnership Accord sealed on June 2, 2023, in Yaounde.

Stephanie Nyambi, Head of the Yaounde V Social Center warmly expressed her joy and satisfaction to see such a huge humanitarian action undertaken by MTN Cameroon.

Mrs. Nyambi did not fail to extend words of thanks to the Minister of Social Affairs and the General Manager of MTN Cameroon.

Placed under the theme: “Empowering Entrepreneurs to Accelerate Growth and Job Creation within Communities” this 17th edition of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care focuses on the construction and equipment of a workshop for the production of ecological cobblestones made from plastic waste, at the Polyvalent High School of Bonaberi in Douala; the construction and equipment in all 10 regions of training and coworking spaces dedicated to people living with disabilities; the training of young girls from the Incubation Center of the Chamber of Commerce in Douala.

Understanding the “21 Days of Y’ello Care’’

“21 Days of Y’ello Care’’ programme is a charitable and benevolent initiative created by the MTN Group, which has been engaging its employees each year to carry out for 21 days, social actions for the welfare of communities in the 22 footprints of the Group throughout the world since 2007.

The programme “21 Days of Y’ello Care”’ is a social investment policy complement embodied by the MTN Foundation. Unlike the Foundation’s projects that are funded by the Company and achieved over time, the “21 Days of Y’ello Care’’ is supported by the efforts of employees. In all footprints of the MTN Group, employees themselves define the social actions they intend to carry out, and then materially and personally invest in achieving such projects.

Each year, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme centers on a theme related to Education, Health, the Environment, or Youth Empowerment.

Since the launch in 2007 of the “21 Days of Y’ello Care”, MTN Cameroon was declared in 2012, 2013, and 2015 winner of the Programme whereby all 22 operations of the Group compete each year to grab the MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer trophy and accompanying annual cash prize of $100.000. In 2016 and 2017, the Company won the West and Central Africa (WECA) Vice President’s Award and the accompanying annual cash prize of $30.000.
