National Assembly: Second Wave of Ministers Appeared Before MPs for General Debates

Three Ministers have been questioned by members of parliament during the second general debate that took place on Friday 24th June 2022 at the national assembly.

The question and answer session that took place on Friday, 24th June 2022 within the framework of the ongoing June ordinary session of the national assembly was another room opened for MPs who grilled government officials on burning issues affecting the population.

The session held at the conference center, currently playing host to the lower house of parliament was chaired by the President of the national assembly, Right Honorable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.

Minister of water resources and energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, Minister of state, Minister of justice and keeper of the seals, Laurent Esso and Minister of labour and social security, Gregoire Owona appeared before MPs in order to grant responses on some issues affecting the populations.

CPDM Member of parliament from the Mbam and Kim division of the Center region, Honorable Saya Kaigama addressed the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and keeper of the seals, Laurent Esso on prison overcrowding and judicial delays.

Honorable Saya Kaigama asked to Minister Laurent Esso what is preventing the legislation of this separate instrument which is supposed to lay down the conditions governing the application of the alternative penalties which if well applied will pave the way for the decongestion of prisons?

Honorable Kum John on his part questioned the Minister of labour and social security, Gregoire Owona on issues surrounding the implementation of the minimum wage and protection of local manpower in multi-national companies.

To the Minister of water resources and energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, the MP of the Diamare Center, Honorable Damdam Marie focused her questions on measures taken to step up the performance of thermal power plants in the North region of the country; the state of progress of the Bini a warak dam construction project; the rehabilitation of the Lagdo hydroelectric power station; the state of progress of the South-North interconnected networks project.
