Former Manchester United football players, Quinton Fortune and Wes Brown have been associated to the ongoing Chivas Afroblend tour campaign. The two prominent footballers alongside Jamie Hamilton, brand Ambassador of Chivas Regal, granted a press conference on Saturday March 7, 2020 in Yaounde, Cameroon. Chosen for their exciting and rich careers with the english renown club, Manchester United, both players were invited to Cameroon to commune and share with their fans and consumers their experiences in a special Chivas Regal event. The stars of Manchester expressed their respect for Cameroon with regards to former players like Roger Milla and Makanaky Cyrille who inspired them later on in their football careers. « Invest in young people for the development of football in Cameroon could be of great advantage for Chivas Regal which I believe is doing that. Cameroon has amazing talents. Because of Cameroon, I started imagining myself as a young player in South Africa » said Quinton Fortune. Taking stock of their career, they have shared some of their best practices on the pitch and have encouraged young footballers  to work, there is no magic in sucess. Wes Brown said all resides in hardwork : «You have to start a young age.The more you practice, the more it helps. Alot of practice will bring you sucess just like the Chivas and Manchester. » A football player has to look into his nutritional habits. The type of meals and drinks he takes. And because we look forward in quality products that is why we consume quality products like chivas said former players of the red devils. During the session with the media, much was equally highlighted on the existing partnership between the whisky and Manchester United football club since 2018 and also the quality of the product. According to Jamie Hamilton whisky is like football with a blend of talents. «When you look at the teams of Manchester United from 1999 to 2008, there is a variety of talents and competencies with differents tools to win ». Brand Ambassador of Chivas Regal, Jamie is in Cameroon for the three months in abid to help consumers appreciate the quality of the first scottish whisky, Chivas regal. In a press release signed Friday March 6, 2020, Cameroon’health Minister Dr. Manaouda Malachie confirms the first case of the coronavirus in the country. According to information, the victim has been identified as a 58-year-old French national who arrived in the country on February 24. ‘‘The case was placed in solitary confinement in the Care Center of the Yaounde Central Hospital for appropriate treatment,’‘ says the minister’s release. Days ago in a meeting with health officials and the World Health Organization, Minister Manaouda reassured the country that government has put in place measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Internally Displaced Persons Ups skills on Income Generating Activities

Transforming wheat flour into fish pie and producing starch using locally cultivated cassava tubas. This has been  the main focus of a series of training sessions organized by locally based non governmental organization, Bridgers Association Cameroon, within the framework of a project dubbed: economic empowerment of women/Girls to counter gender based violence(GBV) amidst the anglophone crisis. These training sessions held from February 19 till the 27, 2020 in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon, gathered over 40 women and girls. According to Jackline Azah Chey, General coordinator of Bridgers association Cameroon, the fully funded initiative of the High Commission of Canada to Cameroon, seeks to empower internally displaced women and girls socio-economically, in a bid to minimize gender based violence perpetrated on them as a result of extreme poverty and hardship they are experiencing. While officially opening the trainings, Jackline Azah Chey said they are more preoccupied on how to revamp the mindsets of these internally displaced persons who have been tortured and suffered since the start of the crisis in 2016.  « Our cry is to put an end to the varied forms of Gender Based Violence you women and girls are going through. The green T-Shirts you are putting on signifies hope, there is a green light at the end of the tunnel since you still have life. So we beckon on you to deviate from deviant practices such as prostitution and even early and Forced Marriages in which you have resorted to pushing your little girls in to, just to make a living or shift responsibilities. » She said. The trainees were equally drilled on  accounting and book keeping which will help them have a stock of their businesses and measure progress in the days ahead. In addition to the trainings, the women and girls were granted seed capital as well as capital materials.  As a registered association operating from Yaounde with satellite offices in Bamenda and Buea, Bridgers association Cameroon has the mission to empower women and girls through advocacy in order to achieve gender equality and fight against gender based violence. Bridgers association Cameroon on its roadmap geared towards implimenting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) has so far carried out in over 18 communities sensitization campaigns on GBV with a focus on child marriage, female genital mutilation, breast ironing, domestic and sexual violence and child labour. The community based organization has also amongst others carried- out sexual and reproductive health awareness in some 13 schools, 11 communities, with highlight on menstrual hygiene education, the proper use of male and female contraceptives for safe sex especially for the youths, and besides leading HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns.     Elise Kenimbeni

Des sanctions pour les auteurs des Mutilations Génitales Féminines

A l’occasion de la 13ème journée internationale tolérance zéro contre les mutilations génitales féminines, la Ministre camerounaise de la promotion de la femme et de la famille a durcit le ton contre les auteurs de ces actes. Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa l’a dit au cours de sa déclaration en onze minutes en anglais puis en Français. Elle s’est exprimée devant la presse nationale et internationale ce 06 février 2020. Une date consacrée à la journée internationale tolérance zéro aux mutilations génitales féminines. La ministre a déclaré qu’il convient de rappeler que la loi numéro 2016/007 du 12 juillet 2016, marque la fin de l’impunité. Les contrevenants n’ont qu’à bien se tenir. Nul n’est censé ignorer la loi. La vulgarisation des articles 277 et suivants du nouveau code pénal qui répriment cette forme atroce de violence à l’égard Surtout des filles est cité ici sans ambages. Un ton dur qui est la conséquence de la recrudescence de ce phénomène qui met à mal la jeune fille et le garçon. Ceci malgré les actions de sensibilisation du gouvernement au cours des dix dernières années au Cameroun. La prévention et le plaidoyer ont été abondamment usités tout comme le dispositif institutionnel de prise en charge des victimes qui a été renforcé explique le Professeur  Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa. Le taux de prévalence du phénomène est de 1,4% dans tout le pays et de 20% dans les zones foyers selon l’EDS-Mics 2011.La prise de conscience collective est évoquée par la Ministre de la promotion de la Femme et de la Famille. Le thème de cette 13ème édition est “investir dans les adolescents, filles et garçons, à travers la formation et l’information afin d’assurer l’atteinte de l’objectif Tolérance zéro aux mutilations génitales féminines.”. Santé Sexuelle des Jeunes, le risque qui vient des réseaux sociaux !

Le concept “plus tard c’est mieux 3z+”est ce mois de février à sa deuxième édition au Cameroun. Il s’agît d’une campagne digitale mise en branle par la CAMNAFAW, Cameroon National Association for Family Welfare, sur la base d’un projet Fonds Mondial de lutte contre le VIH Sida, la Tuberculose et le Paludisme. Le lancement officiel de cette deuxième édition a eu pour cadre ce 5 Février 2020 le Lycée de Elig Essono à Yaoundé. De centaines d’élèves rassemblés dans la cours du lycée ont pris part à une causerie éducative en présence de Madame Nguele Abada Nathalie, proviseur de cet établissement d’enseignement secondaire. Présent également, le représentant du Directeur Exécutif de la CAMNAFAW, Arouna Tena, responsable du projet Fonds Mondial au sein de L’ONG .Pour l’occasion et dans l’optique de faire passer le message auprès des jeunes, l’humoriste Moustik le Charismatique a offert une prestation digne d’intérêt pour les élèves qui ont été édifié à   sexualité responsable mais surtout à préserver leur santé à travers l’usage responsable et modéré des réseaux sociaux afin de prévenir le VIH, les IST, les grossesses indésirées, la consommation de drogues et plus loin permettre aux jeunes d’entrer en contact avec la Bonne information sur les questions de santé de reproduction. L’enjeu est de convaincre les adolescents et les jeunes à repousser au plus loin la survenue du premier rapport sexuel. Mais avant, le Proviseur du lycée d’Elig Essono à remercier les porteurs du projet qui selon elle contribue à sécuriser l’avenir de la jeunesse camerounaise. Animée par le pool « community Management » de la CAMNAFAW, la causerie éducative a permis d’indiquer aux jeunes les services offerts par la CAMNAFAW pour la prévention et la prise en charge. Cette cérémonie donne ainsi le coup d’envoi de trois semaines de sensibilisation dans les établissements scolaires de Yaoundé et ses environs. Une activité qui s’intègre dans le contexte de la célébration au Cameroun de la 54ème édition de la fête  de la Jeunesse.     La rédaction
