In a press release issued on April 7, 2020, the Minister of transport in Cameroon has stated clearly the need for all transport passengers to put on face masks before boarding any public vehicle. Minister Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle  Bibehe in his release, calls for the respect of this new measure as from the 8th April 2020. The decision of the minister of transport comes within the framework of government’s measures aimed at fighting the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). To ensure the strict implimentation of this measure, minister Ngalle Bibehe calls on the collaboration of all services attached to his ministerial department, operators of the transport sector as well as forces of law and order. Camwater Reinforces E-Payment As Response to COVID-19 Fight in Cameroon

  The Cameroon water utilities corpration (Camwater) has issued a release to create more awareness on its electronic payment of bills. Added to the current payments through Express Union and bank accounts as often undertaken by customers of Camwater, there is the electronic payment of bills via mobile phone operators. E-payment of bills reinforced nationwide is one of the measures put in place by the top management of camwater to scale up in its own way the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Leading General Manger of Camwater, Gervais Bolenga and his collaborators have put in place all procedures for a fleunt electronic payment of bills by the consumers. The payment that are operational through mobile money networks comes in support of government’s 13 measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 indoors. The respect of social distancing is priviledged here by community enterprise, Camwater. Yet, the customer’s service opened 24 on 24 hours everyday responds to all inquiries at the green number 8121. As the main supplier and distributor of potable water in Cameroon, Camwater, the public enterprise heads on the multiple challenges to satisfy its customers at all cost. For recall, the water production, transport and distribution service was added to the portfolio of Camwater’s services on February 20, 2018, by a presidential decree. COVID-19 : Social Affairs’ Minister Strives for Massive Relocation of Street Children in Cameroon

The Ministry of social affairs has withdrawn about 82 children from the streets of the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde.   The move is part of a pilot operation launched on April 1, 2020 and aimed at relocating the children to the Listening and Transit Center of Yaounde, where they would enjoy a minimum daily care and support package. In the course of this voluntary withdrawal, the children are being screened on the spot before been transported. On the various relocation sites, medical care are offered by teams mobilized by the ministry of public health. During her tour of the transit centers in Yaounde, Social affairs’ Minister, Pauline Irène Nguene took time to interact with the children that have been relocated to the facilities this morning. She came in as a mother to grant them more advice, support and show them the good sides of their resettlement in a more conducive and appropriate site. For a track record and smooth run of this operation, Minister Pauline Irène Nguene, equally paid a working visit to the video surveillance unit of the police in Yaounde. According to information gotten from the ministry of social affairs, these children will be inserted in many social and recreational programmes. They will have to take active part in educational talks, individual or group interviews. They will be able to eat, refresh themselves, and receive care and moreover there will be follow-ups with regards to their detoxification as most are drugs addicts. Planned for a 3 month period in the various centers of Yaounde I, II, IV and V, these activities will unfold gradually and according to the evolution of children’s behaviour. The children will be taken off the streets and will be re-socialized through four possibilities being: a return to the family, placement in a workshop initiation to trade, educational placement for those who meet the conditions and placement in a rehabilitation center for minors. This activity will initially be extended to the cities of Douala and Bafoussam in the days ahead. In view of the complex and transversal nature of the fight against the phenomenon of street children, the operation benefits from the support of institutional partners such as the ministry of public health, national employment fund, local councils and most especially the Delegation for national surety. Bracing up the challenges at this moment of COVID-19 is one of the major preoccupations of the ministry of social affairs who intends to pursue government’s fight against this pandemic disease in its own way.       Elise Kenimbeni

COVID-19 : Mako Industries brings its support to Cameroon’s Government

During an audience granted to the Executive staff of Mako industries, it has been disclosed that some local products will be made available to fight against coronavirus (COVID-19). The audience held on March 30,2020 at the ministry of youth affairs and civic education in Yaounde, gave root to new venues that will help boost the ongoing civic education campaign launched to fight against the pandemic disease. Minister Mounouna Foutsou praised the initiative of this young enterprise. He said the move of Mako industries should be inciteful as government needs more actions from the civil society organizations inabid to positively fight back COVID-19. Dr Kouatchou, Executive manager of Mako industries said his 6 years-old company is ready to support the government in the current battle. The company is expected to provide amongst others ; masks, toilet tissue, handkerchiefs, biodegradable plastic bags etc. Dr Vandi, Director of the pharmacy in the ministry of public health said the aid comes at a moment the government is faced with the problem of local production of such products. He said the initiative of Mako industries is laudable. Yet, the ministry of public health will undertake some inspections on the field in order to measure the standards and quality of  these products. Taking part at the audience, the High council of Cameroonians living abroad through its President, Dr Dongmo Samuel has announced  a contribution worth 100 million FCFA from the diaspora in the upcoming days. COVID-19: Sisterspeak 237 Gives a push in the Fight

As government strives forward to fight against pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19), Civil society organisations and other international institutions give a helping hand in these combined efforts. It is the case of Sisterspeak 237. On behalf of Sisterspeak237, Project Lead-Wanchia Cynthia donated some protective gear to the Bamenda Regional Hospital, in a bid to fight the spread of Covid-19. The Regional Director – Dr Denis Nsame said these will go a long way to facilitate their work especially as the situation is becoming more complex. There are still a number of hospitals that are ill-equipped to fight the Covid-19 and this puts the health workers at risk as they are constantly exposed. According to the director of this health facility, so far, there are 25.000 persons in the North west region who have been screened and the only suspected case tested negative. Created in 2014 in Bamenda, Sisterspeak237 is an organization that amplifies the voices of women and minority groups in Cameroon. Cameroon : Youth Affairs’ Minister Ushers Campaign Teams In COVID-19 Field Sensitization

Preaching by the good example as Head of the ministry of youth affairs and civic education, Mounouna Foutsou, laid grounds for the nationwide civic education campaign against the pandemic Coronavirus (COVID-19). The field sensitization launched officially on March 25, 2020 by Minister Mounouna Foutsou took place in three phases. The first phase and stop-over was at the simbock chieftaincy and Mendong  Market in the Yaounde VI subdivision. The second phase took place at the Tsinga market in the Yaounde II subdivision and the third and last lap was at the Etoudi market in Yaounde I. At the start of his field trip, the Minister in a simple note advised people to strictly follow the 13 measures of government to fight against the COVID-19. He said : « I’m here  to let you know that Coronavirus is a reality. The Head of state, H.E Paul Biya is asking you  to respect the measures edicted by the government. Only civic respect can help us move out of this pandemic situation. Do it for you, for your relatives and for Cameroon ». Alongside youth affairs’ and civic education minister, some heads of health districts were associated to the move. For instance, Dr Lucien Mama, head of the Cité verte health district, on his part exchanged with the mob. He called on the population to respect basic hygiene rules, saying failure to do so, is an open way to the virus. The same messages were transmitted to people encountered in the different laps of this civic education campaign. Mounouna Foutsou said : « If we don’t do anything to fight back this virus, we shall all disappear and no one wishes it.». In a sad note, he outlined the fact that Cameroon is today mourning one of its outstanding son and artist  musician, Manu Dibango due to COVID-19. He said everybody is deeply touched by this lost. « Dear brothers and sisters, you are not used to see me here at the Etoudi market. If I’m here, it’s simply to tell you that this pandemic is a reality. No more jokes ! » He added. Urban and rural mobile mass animation teams (EMAPUR) and community mediators who are at the heart of this campaign, have been instructed by Mounouna Foutsou to inform the population about the 13 measures laid down by the government. They have to show them the various hygiene methods to scrupulously follow to kick-out coronavirus. The Minister granted to each group of EMAPUR and community mediators a set of kits composed of hydro-alcoholic solutions for disinfection, loudspeakers to address the public and a circular that contains the 13 edicted measures of government. After a tight battle on the field during the February 2020 twin election, Dieudonné Alaka embarks on philanthropic activities. The young native of the Mbam and Inoubou Division, Center region of Cameroon, intends to help  persons needy through his newly created non-governmental organization, known in french as “Les Humanistes “. “ It is the moment for me to come back to you to continue the implementation of the ideas on which we exchanged during the campaign including social and humanitarian actions that we will carry-out together in order to support our students, agricultural associations, people living with disabilities and other needy like our brothers and sisters detained ”. He said. Premices of his activities on the field are expected as from next April. The first actions to be carried-out by the political leader are; the support of some primary schools and health centers in the localities of Bokito, Ombessa and Bafia in the Mbam and Inoubou. Despite the havocs observed within his political party, the PCRN, Dieudonné Alaka believes more than ever, that it is time to greatly mobilize and support the party’s ideology. Standing firm and united is essential for a victory as he underscored. “The legislative elections in the Mbam and Inoubou Division, where I was a candidate, experienced internal quarrels within the party which did not allow the conduct of a good electoral campaign in a sereine atmosphere. I found myself forced to suspend my campaign for some few days. I tried as much as I could to explain to oursupporters the causes of such upheavals and misunderstandings within the PCRN. I hope I have convinced some of you to stay true to the ideals of the party.” In his public outing on social networks, the political figure has praised the support of his electorate in the Mbam and Inoubou Division. He said : “I will never miss the opportunity to thank these men and women, these young people who braved the intimidation in our villages to support me and promote the values ​​of the party. Today I know I can still count on you. Thanks to you, the victory of the opposition in Mbam and Inoubou since 1992 had never been so close but atlast! Thank you to my sisters and brothers from Tobagne, Nitoukou, Kon Yambeta, Bafia, Ombessa, Bokito, Begni, Assala, Guefigue, Tchekane, Yoro, Kiiki, Ndiki and Makenene Kilikoto, Balamba, Kédia, Bouraka, Baliama etc”. A call was equally made to summon the youths to act for the development of the country, meaningful of their key role. He said young people should be mobilized, committed and respectful of republican values. They have to believe in their potentials and work all the time. As those who will lead the country in the upcoming future. They have to be united and always stay close to each other. Apart from being a political figure, Dieudonné Alaka is the Executive Manager of Tara Group set-up in 2015. Ruling party, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement clocks 35 today March 24,2020. Contrary to usual political rallies and meetings organized all over the national terrirory, the 35th anniversary is been observed under total confinement. Legendary Cameroonian Saxophonist, Manu Dibango dies of Coronavirus

Manu Dibango 86, has succumbed to the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19). The death of the cameroonian artist musician was announced this March 24, on his official facebook page by his family. « It is with deep sadness that we announce you the loss of Manu Dibango, our Papy Groove, who passed away on 24th March 2020 at 86 years old, further to covid 19. His funeral service will be held in strict privacy, and a tribute to his memory will be organized when possible… » The artist has been tested positive to COVID-19 few days ago. Despite intensive treatment in Paris, France, where he was based, Manu Dibango felt prey of the virus that causes deaths worldwide. COVID-19 : Mounouna Foutsou Leads A Civic Education Campaign in Cameroon

  As part of government’s measures to fight against Coronavirus(COVID-19), the ministry of youth affairs and civic education alongside the ministry of public health launched a nationwide sensitization campaign. In a circular letter addressed to all regional, divisional, sub-divisional delegates and other stakeholders in the ministry of youth affairs and civic education, Minister Mounouna Foutsou initiates a proximity campaign. According to the circular letter, the door-to-door campaign will help disseminate more information on the recently adopted 13 measures of government and common practices granted to people by the ministry of public health. The nationwide  civic education campaign targets all the population and will be undertaken in public services, universities and schools’ campuses, neighbourhoods, markets, drinking spots, travelling agencies, with the support of civil society organizations and youth movements inabid to lead a special intensive campaign for the sensitization and protection against pandemic coronavirus. For an effective coverage of the national territory, youth affairs and civic education Minister has engaged all sub-divisional delegates of his ministerial department to mobilize their staff. Urban and rural mobile mass animation teams(EMAPUR) and community mediators under the leadership of the sub-divisional committees for civic education and national integration(CAECIN), will be upgraded on what is coronavirus ? Its transmission modes and prevention methods prescribed by health experts. More concrete actions are expected to unfold on the field as : posting of banners, fliers with messages designed by the ministry of public health in english and french ; sensitizing people on the need to have soap and potable water for hand washing as one of the measures outlined by the government; informing and sensitizing people on the existence of a free green number (1510) in case of any suspected victim around them.
